My Aching Back!

Well, not mine exactly, but my poor partner's in the "Oh Baby!" swap. One of the items she said she wanted was a heatable back remedy for herself. That's when I came up with this:

Basically, I created a 'back wrap' (sort of like an eye pillow) filled with rice (and lightly scented) that can be heated up in the microwave or chilled in the freezer and laid across her back. It's a quick to sew up project, but hopefully very effective (and the fabric worked really well with my Rockin' Baby theme)!

Today, I'm making one more 'set' of items - burp cloths, and then I think my package will be complete!

I ADORE that fabric! I wish I could find some sheets with that print. It's a good thing that you scented the rice a little. My gran made herself a neck warmer out of a (new) tube sock and it felt great, but I thought it smelled bad.

I hope that you'll post some pictures of your rockin' room!

That's awesome, especially that fabric! I have several homemade heat pads. You're right--they're quick to do up. I even made one for my dog, because every time I get up, he jumps in the chair and takes my heat pad over for himself!

Stacey, that's a great idea. What kind of rice do you use and what do you use to scent it?

I just use a 'regular' white rice (not the instant kind). I find that when you heat it up - it has a funny smell so I added a bit of essential oil in a sweet pea scent (my favorite). I've read that a lot of people use the jasmine rice which has a nice natural smell without needing to add anything to it.

I just wanted to add that the microwavable/freezerable packs like the one you made are fantastic for engorged breasts after baby is born too! I'm so glad that I kept mine from my first pregnancy.
