New Dress
Is it wrong to make a dress because you fell in love with a pair of shoes? After seeing Sewl Sista #1 version of the Simplicity 3799, I knew that I had to make that dress to go with my new strappy, cork heels.
Fortuntely, Hobby Lobby had a Simplicity pattern sale so I was able to get it immediately. I sifted through my material and settled on some fabric originally intended to make the Hot Pattern Cha-Cha-Cha dress. When I purchased the material, I knew that I would be a bit short (I got the rest that was on the bolt) - unfortuantely, it wasn't enough to make the Hot Patterns dress, but was perfectly suited for the Simplicity (with some left over)!

The dress itself was amazingly easy to put together. The directions were simple, there were just a few pieces, and I was able to whip this garment up in an afternoon! Since I had finished it before the wedding, I asked my family which dress I should wear - this one was the big winner. I think the fabric made this dress stand out - and the style was extremely comfortable to be doing lots of sitting, standing and dancing in!

Hello Harry!
Were you expecting a post about sewing today? Who can talk about sewing when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be soon arriving in my mailbox (let's hope it's in my mailbox we did super saver shipping with another item so you never know)? Needless to say, much of my weekend will be consumed with reading this final book in the Harry Potter series.
So to tide you over before I start talking about my latest project (Simplicity 3977), here's so links!
If you haven't already seen them, new fall patterns are up at Kwik Sew, Simplicity, Vogue, and a German preview of Burda.
Pillowig, enough said.
Make your own alligator sewing kit. [via Craft Gossip]
Free downloadable patterns from the Joann website. I picked up McCall 5466.
Remember about a month ago when I linked to an 'article' that talked about more purses made from 'meat'? Someone did it! I present to you, the Bacon Wallet.
Shoes!
Before I start into a new (rambling) post, I wanted to say Thank You for all so much the wonderful comments that you all left yesterday about Taylor's jr. bridesmaid's dress! You all are getting me motivated to raid my closet and make more reconstructed garments! I'll be sure to take plenty of photos tonight of everyone and share them when we get back. But first, let me share with you my new shoes:

I found these two pairs the other day while shoe shopping for Taylor's bridesmaid dress.
All summer long I've wanted a pair of strappy, cork wedge sandals - when I came across the pair on the left I had to snag them - and they were on sale to boot! Of course, the issue was that I had nothing to wear with them, so it's only stands to reason that I make something (more on that in an upcoming post). The shoes on the right looked to be a perfect match for my Vogue 8386 dress so I picked them up as well (also on sale). Let me just say that I like that dress so much better once I've put heals with them.
So, the big question is, what will I be wearing tonight? Will it be the new dress that I whipped out to go with my strappy shoes (I've put Simplicity 3799 on the sidebar as a teaser) or will the Vogue win out?
