Impulse Sewing

Aside from the pajama pants that I made the other day, it's been awhile since I've sewn anything for Taylor. I thought that I would make a few items that I could put under the tree. One of her favorite things to wear around the house are knit shorts (it doesn't matter the season, she wears them), so I thought I would start with that. I 'shopped the stash' and found a fun flying pigs print that I had picked up from The Fabric Fairy several months ago. The material itself was too thin to use as shorts so I decided to turn it into a tank and search around for something to use for the short. Yes, I just made more work for myself.

Surprisingly, I found a matching french terry that I had used for a pair of Burda track pants. So after some tracing (I used Kwik Sew 2489 minus the side slits), cutting and sewing, I had this:

Now onto planning for the tank!

Saved Shirt

After putting aside my Lucy shirt for a day, I decided to revisit it to see if it could be saved. The first thing I noticed is that the upper portion of the shirt suddenly fit..... yes, it helps to wear the shirt the 'correct' way - with the front in the front and not backwards. This, of course, didn't fix the problem with the tight arms. The only solution I saw was to shorten the sleeve..... and it worked! I am thrilled I saved this shirt!

The photo on the left is how the shirt started and the one on the right is the completed look.

Oh, Lucy!

All I can say is, I LOVE these boxers! They have a comfortable fit, went together quickly, and best of all, they're Lucy! I can definitely see using this pattern again - the only change I would make is how I attached the elastic, otherwise, it's perfect. Now onto the shirt..... I'm thinking Jalie 2805.

Cold Weather Sewing

What does Lucille Ball, Quilting Treasures, and Kwik Sew 2489 have in common? They're going to become my new set of pajamas. I finally settled on a pattern - I picked this one mainly because it uses a yard of fabric and I trust that Kwik Sew will give a good fit . I've seen several sleeping boxer patterns in several books that I've recently purchased (One-Yard Wonders and Sweet Nothings both have something similar styles), but I since I haven't tried anything from either, I wasn't sure how the sizing ran and I wanted to avoid having to either 'make a muslin' or ruining the fabric that I currently have. I'll be putting all the information up on the sidebar soon. You can find all the pattern information on the sidebar.

Since today is rainy and cold, it looks as if I'll stay inside, trace off some patterns, and sew. Oh yes, and cook some Corn and Crab Bisque for dinner. YUM.
