I've been tagged! Average Jane Crafter tagged me last week and asked that I post 7 things about myself. I've been racking my brain ever since to list some sort of interesting\random\quirky facts that I haven't already shared (I might add, I'm sure I have more, but am resisting asking my family and sharing those! If you're interested, you can read my previous lists here, here, here, and this post with a 'holiday' version). Fortunately, yesterday I was tagged by Kris of MoneyFoot Designs with a new meme - Blogging! So here's my answers to the questions (hope that's o.k. I used this one Rachael!):
1. Why did you start your blog?
Well, to make a long story short, Bret loves making blogs - he's been doing it since the late '90's. In fact, he runs several (Not An Exit - an unofficial Bret Easton Ellis weblog, Everything Tarantino - the name speaks for itself, as well as his own personal ramblings, Neoflux.com). Years ago, I even had one myself, but between work, taking care of Taylor, etc. I just didn't have the time to keep up. So, several years ago, he suggested I start up another one again. Finally, with some convincing I did it - and Stacy Sews was born!
2. How did you come up with your blog name?
Well, I think that the name speaks for itself - it's not very original is it?
3. Do your friends and family know about your blog? What do they think of it?
Yes, but I'm not really sure what they think of it - I've never really asked. I do know that some of them periodically check in to see what I'm up to, though!
4. How do you write posts?
I typically use my laptop, sit in the recliner, and listen to a favorite show (I like to multi-task, LOL). As for the post themselves - I just write what comes to mind (which is mostly what I've been working on the previous day or sharing interesting tidbits that I find on the internet, etc.). I strive to write a post every day, but wish I had the time to do more - which is why some days there are more than one post each day.... I had more free time!
5. Have you ever had a troll or had to delete unkind comments?
No, not really. I do, at times, have problems with spam which makes me delete comments and close off threads so that they can't post there anymore!
6. Do you check your stats? Do you care how many people read your blog? If you do care, how to you increase traffic?
I'll admit it. Yes, I check stats! I like seeing how people get to this site (direct link or through search engine traffic, etc.) and where they are from. I think that this blog, as well as a lot of other crafty\sewing blogs, are out there with a pretty specific audience and I think of most people that visit as part of a (sewing\crafting) community - so I'm guessing that the pool of people coming are always going to be 'small' in comparison to other types of sites (take news sites for example)! I don't do anything specific, however, if I do notice that there are lots of searches for a particular topic (lets say how to make a tiered skirt), I'm more likely to blog about it since there seems to be more of an interest in it.
7. What kind of blogs/posts interest you?
If you look at my Feed Reader, you'll find a hodgepodge of different sites - everything from sewing, knitting, and crafts to news and celebrity gossip. If you've left a comment on my site with a link back to your personal page, more than likely I visit as often as you post (I shamefully admit, I lurk a lot)! As far as posts themselves, like most people, I LOVE pictures! I'm also interesting in hearing about what everyone is making, doing, and working on. I'm also a sucker for tutorials and interesting links!
8. What do you like and dislike about blogging?
Probably the thing that I like best about blogging is all the wonderful people I've met. If it wasn't for blogging I wouldn't have had the opportunity to get to know everyone that I have. I really do view my readers as well as all the blogs I read, people that I talk email on a 'regular' basis, etc. as part of a community of people that I have really grown with, learned from, been inspired by, and formed great friendships with!
As far as dislikes - SPAM, server and\or internet difficulties, and lack of time to post everything I would like to!
So now it's your turn! I'm not specifically tagging anyone since I know a lot of you all are at the PR retreat in LA this weekend (lucky ducks!) and won't be blogging until you get back. But if you run a website, I would love to see what you have to say to these questions!
