The 'Finished' Sewing Room
It seems like it's been ages since I started working on my sewing room, but all the effort has finally payed off. My sewing room is now 'finished'. Aside from window treatments, the hanging of my inspiration board and picture, and possibly a future paint job, this is what my sanctuary\workroom looks like (beware, image heavy post):

When you first look into the room, this is what you'll see - my 'reading area'. The bookshelf is a new purchase and was really necessary to hold all the books (I didn't realize I had so many, but I can't help it, I love books) and magazines (all those that you see are predominantly Burda World of Fashion, but also contain a few Ottobre, Patrones, Knip Mode, etc.). The pillows on the futon need to have slipcovers made to match the other fabrics in the room (my first 2008 project) and the Gumdrop Pillows that sit next to them.

The next area of my sewing room is the 'cutting table'. Originally, this table was a drafting table (that I've owned for ages and used to be my sewing table when I only had one machine to contend with), but has now been re-purposed. I'm very excited to have an area that I can store my fat quarters, cutting mat, and rulers as well as have a large workspace to trace patterns and cut material.

Of course, this is where all the machines are - the overall set up of this table hasn't changed from what it used to be except that it's tons cleaner (and organized) and they all have coordinating covers.

The last area is a photo of my 'working' shelf that houses machine manuals, buttons, etc. and the stash closet. Inside are all the fabrics (my goal to to sew more from the stash and to keep this are 'under control'), patterns (I'm not pleased with this system as they are currently just put inside two crates, but they are out of the way for now), craft supplies, interfacings (battings, pillow forms), knitting yarns and needles, and miscellaneous items (such as a giant bag of ties) that I use. Although the closet isn't perfect, for the most part I'm happy with they way it's turned out and thrilled that it's out of view! The only other part of the sewing area that wasn't shown is my dress form which is in a corner when you first walk in (she is now dressed in the Friday Night Apron which coordinates with the fabrics in the rest of the room).
I can't wait to get working in my new area - I think that it's not only functional, but is a relaxing area that I'll enjoy being in!
Before I log off, I want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year! If you haven't already done so, don't forget to enter the Pattern Giveaway Contest - I'll be drawing a winner tomorrow morning.

Thanks for sharing your new sewing room! So tidy!! I'm glad I'm not the only one with a Christmas sewing mess in their sewing room. I had such fun making most of my Christmas gifts this year. Way more fun that shopping at crowded malls. I'm starting the new year off planning for next Christmas.

Ok, it looks FABULOUS! I love the coordinating covers, did you use a pattern? I think I need to do this very thing, even though 2 of my machines have plain jane covers.
Can you share what your sewing table is? It looks like a computer desk sort of, which is a brilliant idea!
Happy New Year!! Here's to loads of new projects in 2008!!

Thanks everyone! I'm hoping that I can keep my area clean (although I'm sure this is the cleanest it will ever be!).
For the sewing machine covers, I didn't use patterns. Next time I make them, I'd do them in a bit of a stiffer fabric.
For the sewing table, I just use a corner computer table. With an adjustable chair it's the right height for sewing, is large enough for all my machines and was much more reasonably priced than a Koala cabinet

Really great sewing space. Is it as roomy as it looks? You're sure to make tons of wonderful projects in there.

Stacy,
I forget how I arrived at your blog tonight. After clicking link after link, I can never retrace my hyperlink trail. Anyway, I'm glad to see you have settled into your great new sewing room that's already wonderfully organized. Also, I was wondering how your pregnancy was coming along, and I see everything's going well! As if moving isn't stressful enough! Anyway, I enjoyed my visit. (PR member tessiesgal) --Anne

Oh Stacy the room is fantastic!!! I am so jealous how organized it is (I'm typing in the middle of a mess right now! LOL). I love the machine covers, that is a project I have to do very soon. I can't believe how dusty they get and that I've went this long without having covers on two of my machines. Love those gumdrop pillows too - they are so darn cute! Enjoy the new room. :-)
