Candy Jars

Aside from furniture arranging, these are the only 'crafty' things I've been able to squeeze in.

Taylor's Christmas party is Friday - one of the 'games' I've planned (yes, I'm crazy enough to be moving and be homeroom mom this year! Just wait, their next party is scheduled right around my due date!) is a 'guess how many candies are in the jar.' I had a difficult time finding cute containers so I opted for some simple ones (found in the home section of Walmart) and adorned them with some transparent scrapbook stickers (I had planned on painting them, but have run out of time) and cute ribbon. The longest part of this project? Counting out how many M&Ms fit into each one - anyone want to take a guess how many fit into each jar?

No - although in fifth grade, I won a guessing contest of how much money had been collected by our class for a charity. The prize was the bank we had been using all month to collect in and which had been emptied by the teacher each day. I REALLY wanted that bank - it was a metal rocket ship and you would push a spring-loaded button to propel your loaded coin into the opening!

My desk was near the shelf where the bank stood. So, I kept track of how many visits a day people made to load in coins. Different coins made different sounds. It was not a perfect method since I was sometimes absent or busy. But it amused 10-yr-old me. And, I my guess came closest and won!

My teacher (a nun) suggested that maybe I should offer the bank to the SECOND closest guesser - a boy - since a rocket ship was "more appropriate for boys". I fibbed and said maybe I would give it to my younger briother. I still have that bank.

I'm guessing 123in the small jar and 186 in the larger jar. It's hard because I have no idea about the size of the jars! :)

My company holiday party had this guessing game at it. They used peanut m&m's and because of that I honestly thought there were no more than 350 in the jar.

Turns out there was over 1000! I'm apparently no good at this game but I'll take a guess: 172

Those are cute jars - I'm scared to even guess, I'm always way off on stuff like that. Hope you get to sew something soon to help your withdrawls! :-)

Last month I was the chairperson for the book fair at my daughter's school. We also played a candy guessing game but I used sno caps candy since there was a winter theme. There was over a thousand in the jar but the guesses I got were too cute. The first graders were guessing things like 200 which in their head was next to a million. Even the eighth graders were only guessing around 500. My personal favorite though was when the little kids would guess things like "twenty seven one hundred". It was a lot of fun. I did learn though that our perception is way off when it comes to the number of small candies - so no guess for me!

I think I emailed everyone who guessed, but I though I would post how many there were in each jar. In the small jar - 329 and in the large 645. I'm amazed at how much candy can fit into a container!

Hey, I made some of these too! And I tied the "M&M Nativity Story" poem to the curly ribbons for my nephews.
