Ramblings

With all the swap projects I've been whipping up, there hasn't been a lot of time to post some of the miscellaneous things that have been going on.... So that means it's time for a 'ramblings' post!

First off a HUGE thank you to Maria who not only sent me the latest Ottobre magazine, but also the most adorable onesie! This is the first baby item we've gotten so far and I can't wait to start the baby's room once we move (and the adorable layette set from this issue).

Speaking of the move. The house is progressing along - I should have taken a photo the last time we drove by, but didn't think to bring the camera. It looks as if the closing will be right on schedule (cross your fingers) - they are doing the flooring and deck this week! I'm very excited to get to be in our new home for Christmas. Of course, that means I have to survive another move!

The Sophia bag is out!!! I purchased mine from Kristen and can't wait for it to arrive. I'm thinking I may revisit the weekender as well and make a matching set of bags.

My Christmas Stocking swap hit a little bit of a snag this weekend. I had intended on making my partner this adorable dog jacket. However, after starting to draft up the pattern, I realized that it works out much better if you have the actual dog present. I had no idea where to put the leg holes! So I scraped that idea and have decided to make her the "Charming Handbag" from Bend-the-Rules Sewing. While reading over the directions, there was an omission - there were no measurement for the casing or handles. I contacted Amy Karol and she let me know that the casings (cut 2) are 1 1/2 x 6" and the handles are 2 x 26". Now I'm all set to get started! Another thing I discovered while getting ready to make this project - velvet ribbon is difficult to find.

So, now that you've made it to the bottom of this post - a bit of a contest for sticking with me while I've rambled on this long... Up for grabs, a copy of Adorn's Winter issue! I had thought my subscription has expired since I hadn't gotten it in the mail yet, so I purchased one while I was out. I guess I was wrong since the next day I got mine in the mail - so now I have two. To enter this one, all you have to do is post a comment in this thread. You have until midnight (CST) Wednesday to enter and winner will be chosen by a random number generator. Good Luck!

That onesie is adorable. For your Christmas swap, have you thought about making a dog treat? There are a lot of recipes out there for making them. I have one somewhere if you wish for me to take a look for you (just send me an e-mail).

I will have to take a look at that Bend The Rules Sewing book. I love craft books I aready have 100's of them. I don't know really how many I have but I need to get rid of some to make room for more.

Hi,
I just made two fleece doggy coats one for my daughter's chihuahua and one for my son's greyhound. The pattern was a McCalls Stitch and Save 5165. Without the dogs nearby I guessed and made a small and large. Well as small as Oscar is the neck was a little too small, otherwise it was good and the large was ok, but the greyhound could use it a little longer neck to tail. I am modifying the pattern. I did not use the bias binding and just doubled the fleece and after turning top stitched. It is easy to get on the dog as there are no legs, just velcro flaps to close. The pattern you showed looked similar. They are fun to make.

My Sophia Bag pattern came Saturday... I'm going to cut out the pieces today and maybe start some sewing. You'll have to keep us updated while you work on yours! Have you done the Weekender bag already? I'm thinking about doing that one next (depending on how the Sophia Bag goes). Happy Sewing!

I made the Charming Handbag from Amy's book. It turned out REALLY cute. It's a great pattern. I think I would consider enlarging it if I made it again, however.

So I might have missed something but are you having a boy? Or was that a gender neutral onsie? One more question, was that from the ottorbre that she gave you? I am in the middle of making a little outfit for my little one for the first time out of Ottobre and really like it so far. I am needing an invisible zipper foot to finish it up. Love your blog!!
