It Came!

My free designer bundle from Fabric.com arrived the other day (you can read a bit more about my fabric purchase in this entry) - just look at my goodies!

Inside my box was a pretty, sheer black and white print, a pinstripe with great drape (and a bit of stretch?), a pink jacquard, and a matching color very suitable for lining. All in all, a fun bundle, and I'm really happy with it. I hope they do more in the future!

On the same day my July Burda World of Fashion arrived (I'm so happy that it's coming early anymore). This is another issue that I'm finding lots of things that I would like to make - this jacket and halter top are 'must haves' in my book!

And in case you're wondering what I picked up at Joann's 4th of July sale, here's what I bought (keep in mind that I went in with the idea I was only going to pick up machine needles and a few patterns):

Starting from the left: a few yards of Pattern Ease, Iron on Vinyl (I'll be talking more about it in future posts), lots of 1/4 yards of brocade (it was 60% off), machine needles, New Look 6160 (I've had this one on my wish list for awhile, but after seeing this review I decided to pick it up sooner), and 3 new McCalls - 5467, 5487 (I like the jacket), and my very favorite, 5480. Now to stop blogging and get to sewing!

I'm partial to that McCall's 5467 and will probably buy it to make in pinstipe wool or tweed or checks. I like the strapless jumper look. I wear a lot of strapless dresses and recently bought and wore (for dancing) a fun, mostly pink, plaid strapless bustier top which I wear OVER a narrow-strapped white tank and a white tiered skirt for a sundressy-look. I counted the number of separate pcs of fabric in this little top and it was 21! Sometimes, I just buy something that would be a minor nightmare to make!

That is one great haul of gorgoeous fabrics from all sources!

I just made a skirt for my daughter this morning with that same skull and rose fabric. Yes, my four year old loves skulls and thankfully JoAnn has offered up several fabrics that she just loves. What are your plans with it?

The only thing I'm worried about is how much I'll have to alter the strapless dress!

The skull fabric for now will be the inside of a purse, but I bought enough that I can do something else with it as well (I haven't decided what). I love the fact you made your little girl a skirt with it!

That's why I love Stacysews! You make that strapless jumper and let us all know how the fitting goes and if the darn thing stays up. THEN, I can maybe try one, ha-ha.

(My idea: Mabe I would sew or tack such a jumper to whatever blouse or top I plan to wear under it. I say this because that cotton bustier top thing I bought has NO boning to keep it upright and kept folding over a bit and slipping down the tank top even though it was fairly tightly fitted and had back elastic. Of course, I was rather actively swing dancing while wearing it!)

Tacking it to a shirt is a great idea! I'm going to have to remember that when it comes time to sew.
