Sewing Disasters

So much for 'exceptional ideas'! Yestrday's sewing escapades turned out to be a real bust.

At first, I was going to begin the Onion jacket. However, after looking at the fabric in direct sunlight, I realized that there's no black in it - it's various shades of eggplant, burgandy, and pink! So, after sifting through my fabric stash, I realized I had nothing to make the contrasting waistband (which is sewn onto the garment), so I put this project aside.

Then I decided to move onto a set of yoga\track pants. After all, I had just traced a great pair from Burda World of Fashion's January '06 issue just the other day. Of course, that meant that I should probably wash my terry first (I'd hate for them to shrink after their first washing!), so, while that was in the laundry, I set out to trace the tunic from the latest issue. For whatever reason, my tracing looks horrible (it was probably from the table I was using which has some grooves in it) - it's workable, but just looks bad.

Then after the fabric was done drying, I begin cutting the track pants. Everything was going smoothly until I realized, I have no ribbing for the waistband! That's the point when I gave up for the day.

Today, after a visit to the hairdresser, I'll make a trip to the fabric store to pick up knit ribbing and some material that might work for the Onion jacket (however, seeing that those particular colors will probably be difficult to match, I will probably have to settle on black). Wish me luck that today will turn out better than yesterday! LOL, By the way, Happy St. Patrick's Day, everyone!

You know Stacy I didni't use ribbing for my track pants. I just cut the waistband from the the terry. It worked out great. As there is elastic in the waistband also I am not sure that it matters it is ribbing or not.

Bummer about your jacket though. I am sure that you will find something. As to your tracing I have given up worring about how nice my tracing looks. As long as the lines are good & I can use it I figure who cares!

Stacy
I didn't use any ribbing for my WOF trackpants, either. I just cut the waistband from the velour, and inserted the elastic (I didn't use the drawstring).

I love my trackpants and they are all worn out/washed out so I need to find some new velour to make another pair!

Thanks everyone - you all made me feel better about my day! I'm glad to hear that the self fabric works with these pants and not ribbing. I did find some that (suprisingly) matched my terry and went ahead and got it, I may not use it since it's not realy necessary (and is just a shade off).
