Brocade Bag

I decided to put the Built By Wendy shirt on hold over the weekend since I didn't feel like dealing with the facing and collar issues that I might encounter. So, instead I decided to make the bag from the Winter 2006 Quilts and More magazine that Anary gave to me.

First off, I love the style. It reminds me of the sort of purse you might find in a Japanese sewing book or magazine. Since the handle sizes are different, it gives the bag a unique shape and it's a perfect size for an evening out. Even better, the whole purse is reversable.

I had the hardest time finding fabrics for this purse - the photos in the magazine article used the cutest, 'trendiest' fabrics and I just couldn't seem to find them anywhere. Instead, I settled on some beautiful brocade and a cotton print that I had long admired (and now clearanced at 70% off). And so, I present to you, my daytime purse (this side has pockets all the way around):

and the evening style (which is my personal favorite):

and how it looks when worn:

I love your bag. That is so cute.
It makes me wish I had bought that magazine although now that I think about it, I think there used o be a vogue purse pattern that looked just like that. I wonder if I still have that. I'll have to go look. Otherwise I may have to go back to the fabric store to see if they still have this magazine. I love it!

That looks great! I have 2 fabrics perfect for that style, that I have been hanging on to. I think I'm going to try to wing it and make one off your pics!

Very cute! I made 9 of these in Christmas fabrics as "wrappings" for smaller gifts - fun pattern.
