Snowed In

We finally got our snow yesterday - 5 1/2 inches of it, blowing wind, and bitter cold. Needless to say, we all stayed home and kept warm. How did we entertain ourselves you ask?

One of the benefits of Bret's job is that he can occasionally work from home, which is what he did yesterday. He also picked out what he wants for Christmas - a watch from Tokyoflash. These watches are unique timepieces and require you to decipher what time it is. Personally, I'm not sure I could think that fast if someone stopped me on the street and asked me for the time.Taylor and I ate popcorn and watched a movie, then she played with playdo the rest of the afternoon - our basement still smells like it today. So while everyone else was busy, I cooked. Cold weather brings out the chef in me, so I made a pan of lasagna that felt like it weighed 10 pounds. Later on in the evening, Taylor painted the ornaments Lori sent her from our Stocking Swap (she loved painting them, thanks again Lori!) and I made an army of pears! A few of them still need stems and leaves, but I'm all ready to send them off to their new owners once partners have been announced in the Sweat Shope Swap.

I did venture out into the snow to retrieve the mail - inside were my nailheads for the La Rue Messenger. I'm thinking that they may be too small, but I'm going to play around with them after the bag is complete and see what I can come up with. What was not in my mailbox was the Patrones magazine I ordered. I'm concerned that it's lost somewhere over the ocean (it's coming from Germany) or caught up in customs somewhere. I'm crossing my fingers that it isn't lost (or take 2 months to get here) because I was extremely excited about this issue.

I'm pretty sure you are not going to want to read that I have been trimming shrubs in 74 degree weather today - because they needed it, but mostly to collect boxwood branches for the two live wreaths I made today. These are horizontal wreaths, with the branches stuck into wet Oasis. I want to add some live, red flowers (probably carnations because they last awhile) to decorate these wreaths. And I'll add some shiny stuff, too. There will be a candle in each center, too.

We lose this unusually warm weather tonight but we don't expect any snow, luckily. We had tropical rain a bit today in spurts. And lots of wind on and off. The cold front is moving in. Sigh.

I talked with my sister last night and she actually started crying because they have sleet and snow where she currently is in MO and just a few weeks ago she was living in paradise on Maui! They hope to re-locate to probably Austin, TX soon. The storm in Dallas made them have second thoughts about even looking in D/FW for a home!

That lasgana looks wonderful!!!

Wow, what a cool snow picture. I live on the beach in So Califonia. So, I have never even seen snow let alone lived in it. Very cool!!

That's a good idea for boxwood branches! Although it's too late to do that to ours now!

I hope your sister likes Austin!

OOOOOOH, the beach! I'll trade you places, you can come see my snow and I'll check out the sand! Hehehehe. Actually, I don't mind the snow - we really don't get that much here most years.

Yay! I am so glad she likes them. I'd love to see pics of the finished goods.

I want to join the sweat shoppe but I am not quite sure what I should contribute...

I cut out the pattern for one of your pear pincushions. I have not had the opportunity to stitch it yet due to the many "Mommy" calls I've had lately. I can't wait to get it finished. I know that I get a little addicted to these types of projects and tend to mass produce. I'll let you know how it goes.
