Son of Plucky & Mini Me

I've made two more Pluckys - Taylor calls the large one Chickenzillia (the one on the left), the little one, I've dubbed Mini Me.

The reason for making more is because of the upcoming Little Visitor Swap. Taylor loves the idea of this swap, but parting with a stuffie was not something she wanted to do - even Plucky who sits on my sewing table. I told her that we could make another Plucky (I still have tons of fabric left over from the first one) stuffing him with some micro beads that I've had stored in my sewing area. Of course, she was all for that......

Let me tell you about micro polystyrene beads - they are a mess. And I'm not talking about a little mess, I mean HUGE! I figured that this was a two person job, so I recruited Taylor to hold the new chicken open. I also had read that stuffing should take place outside, since vacuuming too many of these can create a clog in your vacuum cleaner, so filling the chicken took place outside (please stand downwind unless you want little styrofoam beads in your mouth). Approximately 15 minutes later we were finished stuffing, covered in beads (which I am still finding all over myself), and the area looked like it had just snowed. Needless to say, Chickenzilla was born and promptly rushed off to a slumber party.

While I was sewing up Chickenzilla, I thought it would be a nice idea to sew up a mini version of Plucky to return to my swap partner when the Little Vistor Swap is over. Speaking of, Plucky will be traveling to Edinboro, Pennsylvania over the holidays. Be prepared to see travel photos when he returns!

For those following up on our game console quest - we managed to score a Wii yesterday! Our family has now formed a 'virtual bowling league', LOL. It is a great deal of fun and unlike any other system we've owned (this is not the couch potato gaming system). If you own one too, let me know and I'll add you to my 'friends' list - maybe our Mii's can parade!

I can sympathize with the proliferation of cute stuffies and plushies. LOTS of them (mostly store-bought)"live" in our house - years after the kids grew up. Some were actually ours BEFORE we had kids. They all have names. And personalities. And families. Sigh. I packed most up in plastic bags but some keep "escaping".

Weekend update: Weaving class ended. It was really a good experience. I will take more weaving classes and I'll want to buy a loom. I like my thickly-felted plaid and will try to finish it into an actual purse soon. I found some black/white twill wool in my remnant bin, left over from a skirt I'd sewn about 5 years ago. That will be the sides and the edge piping for the purse. It's nicely, tightly woven and "reads" grey because the woven pattern is so small. The weaving teacher suggested I might want to brush up a nap on the twill to make it look soft like the felt and I just may do that.

I *LOVE* these characters! I wouldn't mind making a few to hang out in my sewing room with me.

Re: the micro polystyrene beads...I have some of these had have been afraid to actually use them because I was afraid they would do just what you said they did. Wonder what the solution is?

Bernadette - your purse is going to be fabulous. Please send me pics when you're done.

Sharon - I've been trying to look up better filling techniques and haven't found any. I should add that I also used a funnel which helped, but it was still too narrow of a tube so the beads got clogged in there. If you could find a funnel with a wide neck I think that might do the trick.
