My Weekend

With all the company, sewing\crafting, and reading that I've been doing lately (not to mention all the time I've been spending at Taylor's school), I've neglected one thing - the laundry. The pile on the right is just a sample of how much folding I have to do today.

This weekend was spent at craft stores and the mall. My sister-in-law is getting married this spring and is looking for wedding items for her reception. It's always fun to make arrangements when it's not your wedding to plan! hahaha

Needless to say, I never sewed anything else up after my Butterick top. My Burda shortcoat is still sitting on my dressmaker's manequin - we've had a warm spell again so it's hard to get motivated to finish it. I did get my Office Swap partner, Elphalba. I got so excited that I went ahead and started crafting. I made more magnets, but this time I found larger 'marbles' to use (if you're interested, I got them at Target). The only drawback to using the larger size is that Altoid tins are too small to stick them into.

What has everyone else been up to?

UPDATE: Bret found these two feuding friends (who also happen to be bloggers) on the Karen\Pam debate. On one side, we have the pro Karen and on the other pro Pam. To help decide the winner of the squabble, they're selling shirts. I also spent some time doing some "Office Surfing" and stumbled acrosse these great on the set photos. Both of these are great crafting ideas!

Lastly, if you're interested in The Office spoilers, you need to visit this site.

I like the larger marble magnets! Great job!

My (rather long) update: Wednesay, I took the two small dolls I made to the Strathmore Arts Center to hang on our doll club tree of dolls for show/sale. If no one buys them, I'll have two small gifts ready for other occasions.

I did ALL of the weaving of my "Personal Plaid Project" for weaving class. (Colors I used are red, black, heather grey, and off-white.) Saturday, I went to class, twined each of the two warp edges of the fabric to keep it from unraveling, removed the fabric (about 14" wide X 26" long) from the loom, and used a Conair hair twirling tool to make thick, twisted fringe on one end. (That was fun!)

Today, I hope to full, or maybe even felt, the wool fabric (hot water, soap, agitation). I plan to make a purse with it - maybe by Saturday, which is the last day of weaving class. I like the way the fabric looks NOW so am hesitant to "ruin" it possibly. Oh, well - it's an experiment, after all. I can always weave another piece of fabric, right? haha.

I think I want to buy a loom! I own a smaller, less fancy one that my Mom bought for herself (but never used) some years ago. I just bought some shuttles and red cotton carpet warp thread at the shop. I'll buy some more weaving yarn (not stretchy like knitting yarns)at the shop while I still get the student discount. But I have to turn in my rental loom at the last class, I think.

I have been working on teacher gifts, you spotted them on my blog. The notebooks came from Target, they are the black and white composition type notebooks.

Hmmm ... that laundry pile sure looks familiar!

I LOVE the magnets -The Office is one of my "can't miss" shows.

I'm happy to report the laundry is finished.....and put away! WOOHOO!

Bernadette - I say, 'felt it'! I love the felted look! And a great idea on the twirling tool for twisted fringe, I never would have thought of that use.

Thanks, Lori, I'm going to have to check them out!

DRAT! I missed another snack and sew. I really wanted to take their lingerie class that is being offered this week, but I had conflicts on both nights they were being offered. Any idea on when the next snack and sew is?

Stacy - Well, I did FELT it over the last two days. It looks way different from the bright and rather preppy plaid it WAS. (Now it's more punk or grunge.) But I like it - it is a darker-looking, nice and thick and firm fabric. The twisted fringe things also felted well and will form the trim on the purse flap. It's still not dry so maybe I can sew on it tomorrow.

The weaving teacher said those hair twister gizmos (Conair is one brand) are difficult to find now because some teenage girl yanked out some of her hair using it and sued the makers. So, apparently ALL of us have to suffer for her mistake. haha. My CVS drug store does not have any.
