My (Soon To Be) Version Of The 'It Dress'

Thanks to everyone who left comments or emails on the Duro dress! I settled on the Simplicity version that I currently own. Today, it came down to the fabric!

First, I headed out to Hancock Fabrics - our local store was having a 'truckload sale', simplicity and buttericks were on sale for $1.99 and McCall was $.99! I picked up Simplicity 4020, Simplicity 4015 (for the big tophat!) and Kwik Sew 3434. The fabrics were another story. I'm not sure who's been buying for them, but most of what they carried (truckload and regular price stuff) was absolutely horrible! I did manage to find a nice grey pinstripe - I would like to make a pair of shorts something like this. I figure if I don't use this fabric for shorts then I can always use it to make a pair of pants (and at $1.50 a yard who could pass it up!). I also picked up a knitting kit (75% off) as a gift for a friend's (soon to be) 12 year old daughter.

Being extremely disappointed in Hancock's fabric selection - I decided to check out Joann's. Poor Taylor, I was running back and forth across the store to hold fabrics up to myself to see what color combinations that I liked or what fabrics might work. I finally settled on the ethnic print on a black background and plan on using the white fabric as a contrasting trim and ties. It's not exactly the fabric that I had envisioned to make the Duro with, but I think I'll like the effect.

I'm almost finished with the In K Jacket - I just have the sleeves to finish up (all the hand sewing is finished) and then I think that I'll start working on the Duro. I had better get a move on or this is going to go out of style before I know it!

Oh! I picked up the same Kwik Sew pattern at Hancocks the other day. Isn't that a great look! I look forward to seeing how yours turns out.
