The Independents
Hot Patterns, one of my favorite independent pattern designers has finally released their new collection - The Weekender.
I've decided that this probably isn't the best name for this collection since I would wear these styles everyday! But I suppose a title like "Clothes Stacy Could Live In" just doens't have a ring to it. I am going to display some will power and wait to order some patterns for several weeks, in hopes that I will catch up with all my current projects before stocking up on some new ones.
In the coming weeks, Pamela's Patterns - designer of the famous T-shirt Makeover, will also be coming out with some new designs. At the moment, there is no mention of this on her site, but I will let you know that one of her new features will be taking credit cards when the new designs are launched. I'll put a post up about this when her site is updated and the new features are launched.
Then there's SantaCruzDesigns.com. Their designs were supposed to be launched after Memorial Day. However, I haven't heard anything from them in quite some time so I have no idea where their designs are. Initially, their collection was supposed to have beach wear, shorts, etc., but with summer slowly fading away, I'm not sure that I would want to buy those types of patterns right now. Oh Santa Cruz, where are you?
Lastly, I'd like to give a big hand to Hancock Fabrics who has increased their online pattern selection to include some fabulous independent designers like Loes Hines, Gehee, Folkwear, and several others!

I have been reading your blog for awhile and liked all your links today. Have you used hot patterns before? I haven't bought one yet.

Hi Rosemary -
I've made 3 Hot Patterns before. Two of them are on the sidebar (the Wrapture Jacket - two versions and Floribunda Top) and one I completed prior to starting this site, the bootcut jeans. I made the from some nice stretch corduroy. I like Hot Patterns designs a lot, but some of them have some fitting issues. The Floribunda top had some arm hole issues (they were too small and high for me) and the pants had to be reworked (which is no suprise since I have the same problem areas in the Big 4 pattern too). I have to say that Hot Patterns really have an eye for style!

Was the teeshirt makeover really that bad?? Your linked review of it seemed rather positive...

No, it was great - but this shows me I should never post in the morning before I have at least 2 cups of coffee! I went ahead and edited it to "famous."
