What's Going On With That Hem?
At first glance I really liked Teri Hatcher's dress. It's got a subtle sparkle and print to it and the style is very flattering - that is until I saw the bottom of the dress. Since I like the dress better without the hem treatment, I'm linking to a dress pattern that looks similar, but is simpler at the bottom! Vogue 8240. Pair this up with a shimmery brocade fabric from Fabric Mart or one of the beautiful prints from Gorgeous Fabrics and your dress is guaranteed to look better than this desperate housewife![photo via A Socialite's Life]

Oh, the hem, the hem...
Who designed this dress? The fit is perfect, the color is beautiful on her, the fabric is appropriate for the style and is quite lovely, but the hem looks like a take off on a carpenter's apron. They might have gotten away with it (sort of) with a fabric that drapes better, but why when the dress is beautiful without it. The designer took a classic dress and made it into a cartoon. What a shame.

Whatever I was picturing in my mind before I clicked to see what the hem might be, did not prepare me for the reality! The things people do to make designs unique certainly can take a wrong turn!

Yikes! That hem looks like the pockets I'm putting in a ballet bag I'm sewing. She could keep her ballet shoes in them. LOL

I don't know, I kind of like it. It's different and I like the sculptural aspect of it.
