The Photos And More

As promised here are the photos that yesterday's post lacked and a few updates! So, I guess this means this post has become an early weekend recap!

First off here's my completed Butterick top:

I love this even more than my last one. I wore it yesterday while I went shopping at Joann's and then out to lunch (PF Chang, yum) - it was so warm, comfy, and trendy, I just felt good wearing it.

When we got home, the mail had arrived and inside was my EQuilter fabric order. So without further ado, here's my EQuilter fabric and the goodies I got from Joann's.

The fabrics on the left will become the Amy Butler High Street Messenger (which has now been added to the sidebar) with the flame fabric on the inside of the bag. The fabric on the bottom right is the monkey ornament flannel for Taylor a set of pj's and the tattoo fabric on the top right is just for fun. Sometime this week I'll make a 'voodoo' pincushion from it. Of course, my Patrones still didn't arrive. Cross your fingers it comes Monday so I'll stop blogging about it....

The one picture that I didn't take was the progress on my La Rue bag - at the moment the nailheads are attached and the lining and bag are put together. I still need to bind the handles, make the strap, and tassels - although I haven't decided if I'm using them or not.

So what has everyone else been up to?

In Need Of Pictures

Today's post is photo free - mostly because I haven't had the opportunity to get the camera out to display what I've been up to. However, I've been up to a lot!

My second Butterick cowl neck top is complete! Since winter has finally hit, I added sleeves and lengthened them to full size. Overall, the look is very '80's. If I had a pair of leggings and big hair, you'd swear you warped back into time.

I also started on the La Rue bag. Right now I have the zipper pocket attached to the lining and the pleated pocket inserted on the other side. I played around with my hot fix nailheads and made a horrible discovery - they slide off of pleather! I don't know why I never thought of that possibility before (glue and plastic just don't mix). So I hit several stores in search of pronged nailheads - who knew that they would be so difficult to find? I manged to find some at Hobby Lobby - they are supposed to go with the Gem Setter gadget that you see on infomercials, but I went ahead and got them anyway, I was desperate. I also looked around at their purse notions while I was there - if you're in search for nice looking, inexpensive g-clips d and o rings for this bag, stop in at Hobby Lobby. They've had the best ones so far (and not to mention the best price).

I also went to the sale at Joann's today - I couldn't pass up the 50% off coupon that is good over the weekend. The sole purpose of this trip was to find lining fabric for the High Street Messenger. Since this bag takes 2.5 yards of material, coupons look very good at this moment. In addition to the lining fabric, I also snagged zippers - which means I have all the materials ready to go for this project, so cute snuggle flannel for Taylor some pajamas, a Sew News magazine (my subscription hasn't kicked in yet), and two gift sets. Whew!

I promise to post photos of all my goodies and completed projects tomorrow!

Shop & Top

With Veteran's Day right around the corner, both Joann's and Hancock Fabric had sales starting today.

I started off at Hanocks. Since Butterick patterns were on sale ($1.99), I picked up 3 of the latest - 4914 -the Maggie London mock wrap, 4919 - the retro dress pattern, and 4920. I needed a 'dressy-casual' type top for function last night and since the 4920 top said it was 'fast and easy', I decided to search the store for fabrics. After about a 20 minute search, I settled on a black matte jersey and a peach and black stretch lace.

Then I made my way to Joann's - Simplicity patterns were 5 for $5, who could resist? I got 5, most of which I won't get to until spring.

After spending an eternity shopping, I brought my treasures home and started work on the Butterick top. From cutting to completion, it took around 3 hours. Unfortunately, since the top is black (and the lighting poor) all the details of the top were lost, but I'm extremely happy with how it turned out (and everyone loved my top last night too)! The completed photo, along with costs is on the project sidebar, but you can read my full review (along with a larger photo) here.
