Weekend Sewing
After reading some mixed reviews about Weekend Sewing I was a bit hesitant on buying this book sight unseen. So, one late night, I headed to the bookstore and went to check it out in person... and I could have kicked myself for not picking it up sooner!
From the moment I opened this book, I fell in love. I'm thrilled with the variety of projects included in Weekend Sewing - there's a little something for everyone (even kids) and for every sewing skill level. Plus there's full size patterns! I've picked out several items I want to make including the everything tote, guest-room slippers, town bag, Saturday-night silk jersey set, and Kai's shirt. I can't wait to get started!
The Bottom Line: My favorite types of books are those that include a variety of projects and beautiful photography. Needless to say, this book fits the bill, perfectly. I can see myself getting a lot of use out of Weekend Sewing.

I LOVE Heather Ross...I (for some reason) didn't even KNOW her book was coming out yet - but I ran into it (cosmic forces and all) at Sam's Club the week it was released and couldn't WAIT to get home and gobble it up.
I've already made the PJ pants (nothin' new there - pretty much like every other pj pants I've made, but still good ;)) - and the little girl's smocked dress (again, pretty intuitive, but her directions for using elastic thread in the bobbin were great.)
And most of all - I'm looking forward to the summer blouse. Tracing it off tonight!!!

I'd hate to ask, but could you link to some non-Amazon negative reviews, possibly from bloggers? I saw it in the store quickly and it looked nice, but I'd like to see what the negative reviewers are saying to see if their tastes jibe with mine and what their level of ability is.

I hadn't seen any review from bloggers when I looked this up on Amazon so I don't have any helpful links right now. I normally don't read the Amazon reviews, but I hadn't seen much information on the book prior to buying it, so I thought I would see what others were saying before I spent so much money. Most of what I did see was people saying that the book wasn't very 'original' and they've see the projects before - which I could say about most books these days (with the internet and so many tutorials, it's hard to be 'original' IMHO) and that the projects were not something they would be interested in (for example there's an entire section devoted to kids, mostly little ones, and they don't have any, etc.).

Great review Stacy!
One has to be careful with amazon reviews...I had a personal experience with a coffee maker. A lot of reviews were saying that the machine I wanted was bad. It was saying the machine did shut off after 30 minutes and the hot plate did not turn on after that, etc. From that I learned that some reviews are just non sense..In my view, real coffee lovers knows that coffee cannot stay on hot plate for even that long (30 min) otherwise it burns its oil and get bitter...SO the bad reviews were from people that are happy most probably with "instant coffee". My point is, be more choosy with the reviews you read, check the reviewer (what kind of sewing) Stacy is a FAB and trustfull one!I did a review myself on this book. I 100% agree with Stacy's review.. This is a good book. You see the learning process sailing thru each project. One can be even more creative and original after they learn the ABC's, right? Or simply be inspired (review skills too) by some gorgeous projects.
Sorry I wrote too much :)

Hi Stacy,
I just watched Marth Stewart and she had a tutorial on how to make the little girls smock dress. The technique for shirring was fantastic, I am itching to try it. Best of all you can make an adult version too!! Anyway as soon as I saw this show I thought of you.
I am going to get myself a copy too :)
